Toyota, one of the leading automobile manufacturers, has introduced the ‘Hum Hain Hybrid’ campaign in India to promote the usage of self-charging hybrid electric vehicles. The campaign will be promoted through a curated video series that can be viewed online.
The statement issued by Toyota highlighted the brand’s efforts started in 2015 to move towards zero-carbon emission vehicles and to achieve the target of net-zero. This initiative is part of the brand’s goal to spread awareness about self-charging hybrid EVs as they can help lower fuel consumption by 60% and reduce carbon emissions.
Self-charging hybrid EVs (SHEVs) use a hybrid technology that allows the engine to run from both electric and fuel power. As per the testing agency, iCAT these SHEVS have the ability to run 60% on full-electric mode. The SHEV’s motor does not require a plug-in charge as the motor gets charged by running the internal combustion engine and regenerative braking. “Given the high level of electric mode drive up to 60% of the time, there is a drastic reduction of CO2 emissions up to 30 – 50%”, the report highlighted.
