The state government is pushing for green energy with the help of BPCL, said Chief Secretary SC Mohapatra.  "Odisha has a high potential for production of green energy from ethanol, solar and hydrogen," he said.

"This is a momentous occasion when a company like BPCL has joined hands with the state government for the production of green energy," Development Commissioner PK Jena said.

The state is trying to harness its renewable energy capabilities for satisfying its domestic demands and the demands of heavy industrial setups in the state. The arrangement will explore the feasibility of production and export of sustainable energy.

The company targets to set up a renewable energy production capacity of 10 gigawatts, in a mix of solar, wind, small hydro and biomass by 2040.
