The German government has devised an elaborate plan for switching to renewable energy in the wake of the Russia - Ukraine conflict and the energy crunch it has caused across Europe, they are calling it The Easter Package.
Germany plans to switch 80% of its energy generation to renewable sources by the year 2030, and to 100% by 2035, which is very ambitious given its renewable energy share was 41% in 2019. The plan proposes several amendments in energy laws and rethinking of generation and distribution mechanisms. The Easter Package also has ways of incentivizing the switch to renewable by non- government entities and for individuals who want to use their rooftop for solar energy production.
Germany is aiming at an annual increase of 10 gigawatts of wind energy production on land (totaling 115 gigawatt by 2030), and 22 gigawatts for solar (215 gigawatts by 2030). Plans for wind energy at sea are even more ambitious, moving from at least 30 gigawatts by 2030, to 40 gigawatts by 2035 and at least 70 gigawatts by 2045.
