According to a new study conducted by Deloitte, a large percentage of Indian consumers seem to be too sceptical to switch to EV anytime soon. but also at the same time, the adverse effects on climate of normal petrol vehicles is the primary concern that Indians pointed out in the survey, the second being low fuel costs. 61% of people said that their decision to buy an EV or a hybrid car will not change even if the electricity was priced similarly to petrol. On the other hand, when asked about their preference for their next car purchase, 58% of people said they wanted a petrol car.

A 23% percentage of Indians said lack of charging infrastructure is keeping them from buying an EV, reliability of battery technology as compared to traditional petrol vehicles and range of driving were other major concerns. The most surprising statistic, however, is about how Indians see electric vehicles. Upon being asked if EVs have a lower or higher environmental impact as compared to petrol cars, 45% of people said that EVs have a higher environmental impact and 14% said that they have a similar impact.
