On 12th November 2022, the seventh day of the COP27 at Sharm-el-Sheikh, Adaptation and Agriculture Day was adapted as theme of the day. Climate change and nutrition, financing for climate-smart agriculture, and adaptation technology were the major topics for the focus of the sessions.
An initiative called ‘Climate Responses for
Sustaining Peace (CRSP)’ was launched by the Egypt COP27 Presidency aimed at
integrating responses to climate change that “advance sustainable peace and
development”.
A resolution urging parties to agree to
halting the development of new oil, gas, and coal projects as well as to align
a phase-out of fossil fuels with the 1.5°C temperature goal in the Sharm
El-Sheikh outcome document was adopted by the Global Assembly of
Parliamentarians, which brought together elected officials from every
continent.
India stated that it wants nations to phase
out all fossil fuels, not just coal. It said that portraying solely coal as the
villain is incorrect and that both natural gas and oil contribute to the
production of climate gases.
