Developing asian countries have been criticised for not making a fast transition to renewable energy and burning coal and oil.
The Russia - Ukraine conflict may serve as a turning point in the story of Asian heavy carbon emitters like India and China. Because of the rising prices of fossil fuels, many countries may be forced to speed up their renewable energy transition. Green Hydrogen is being seen as the fuel that’ll save Asian countries from depending heavily on fossil fuels. The prefix ‘Green’ implies that the energy consumed in manufacturing the hydrogen is obtained from green sources like wind or solar etc.
The benefits of hydrogen include easy storage, easy to transport and low emissions. It can be stored in a solid, liquid or in the gas state. But the cost of green hydrogen is still something that is of concern. And same is with renewable sources of energy- wind energy costs $300 per MWh and solar $100 per MWh, it was always tempting to stay with fossil fuels because they are cheap and available but the transition was always supposed to be difficult. The rising fuel prices may give the transition a little push that it needs.
