National Pollution Control Day is celebrated every year on 2 December. The big reason behind celebrating this day is to remember the Bhopal gas tragedy that took place on the night of 2-3 December.
In this gas tragedy, more than 5 lakh people died due to the leakage of poisonous gas. It is known all over the world as the biggest industrial pollution disaster in history, and hence every year, December 2, is marked as National Pollution Control Day in India to make everyone aware of the importance of pollution control acts.Purpose of celebrating this day:The main purpose of celebrating this day is to make people aware of the laws that help prevent pollution, spread awareness about the management and control of industrial disasters, and prevent pollution caused by industrial processes and human negligence. The importance of this day increases manifold to reduce the dire situation prevailing in many parts of the country regarding environmental pollution.The Indian government is drafting revisions to existing ambient air quality standards and has significantly strengthened vehicular and industrial emission standards in recent years. Strategies such as spreading renewable energy, promoting electric vehicles, and supplying LPG gas to millions of homes are being adopted by the Government of India to combat air pollution.
