The road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari, launched India’s first double-decker EV bus in Mumbai last week. The EV bus is manufactured by Ashok Leyland’s subsidiary firm, Switch Mobility, which specializes in manufacturing electric vehicles.
As per the reports, this is a part of the green initiative introduced by the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST). The statement issued by BEST highlights that they are aiming to add more buses for city passengers and to boost the electrification of the public transport system.
The statement says the newly launched buses are eco-friendly and about 65-80 passengers can travel on one ride. These are the world’s first electric-charged semi-low floor double-decker buses. After the launch of the EV buses in Mumbai, Nitin Gadkari took to Twitter and announced that this is a step toward a sustainable revolution. The statement released by Switch Mobility said that “Switch EiV 22 is designed to revolutionize public transportation in the country and will set new standards in the intra-city bus market,” the company statement stated."
