India finalizes NDC goals to achieve the global net-zero target

NDC means national plans and pledges made by a country to meet the goal of maintaining a global temperature rise of 2 °C above pre-industrial levels. Whereas to avoid the worst effects of climate change, the target is 1.5 °C. At the 26th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP26) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) last November, PM Modi announced that India's non-fossil energy potential would reach 500 GW by 2030.

In a statement, the cabinet claimed that such action would also assist in putting India on the path of low emission growth and would protect national interests and the nation's future development requirements in accordance with UNFCCC principles and provisions.
