In Cairo, Egypt's COP27 Presidency lays forth the vision for the Conference and exhorts the world to act immediately

On 28th September 2022, in Cairo, Egypt’s COP27 Presidency set out its vision for the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference, taking place in Egypt’s coastal city of Sharm El-Sheikh from November 7th to the 18th.

The goal is to make COP27 a "implementation COP" by advocating action across all areas of climate change need, with an emphasis on safeguarding people from the immediate consequences of climate change and ensuring no one is left behind.

It was emphasized that the Paris Agreement acknowledged that due to their historical greenhouse gas emissions, nations have combined but differentiated obligations. This places the onus on wealthy countries to provide suitable financing to developing countries in order for them to gradually transition to a more sustainable economy. The COP27 Presidency emphasized the need of first meeting current financial commitments, such as the $100 billion finance objective and doubling global adaptation financing, before raising global ambition on finance.

The Presidency also welcomed actions by Scotland and Denmark as “steps in the right direction” in relation to loss and damage and urged other developed nations to follow their example.

To emphasize that vision, the COP27 Presidency released "Act Now," a film that highlights the threat of climate change as it exists today, its anthropogenic origins, and its anthropogenic solutions, with the goal of persuading international decision-makers to avoid retreating from their commitments and to carry out those commitments by emphasizing the urgency of acting now "because there is no extra time."
