The ICAR-CRI organized a campaign for school children to create awareness on agriculture and the environment
The ICAR-CRIJAF in Barrackpore organized a National Level Campaign on the theme “Agriculture and Environment: The Citizen Face”. The campaign was held to commemorate the 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. It was organized to sensitize the school children about the role of Agriculture in the sustainability of the environment in terms of food security, maintenance of natural resources, and protecting the environment for future generations. Around 24 students and 3 teachers from different schools belonging to the North 24-Parganas district took part in the event organized on 26th November. The program included a quiz competition on “Indian Agriculture and India’s Freedom Struggle”, and an orientation session on “Opportunities and Agriculture Sector for Entrepreneurship and Employment” was conducted to educate the students. ICAR also introduced the students to the vision and its background, about education and career opportunities in the field of agricultural sciences. The students were also taken to visit the exhibition hall and museum to get more familiar with the historical and technological advancements made by the institute. The Director of ICAR-CRIJAF, Dr. Gouranga Kar later addressed the students and discussed the importance of such initiatives aiding the Indian citizen in creating awareness and talked about the disastrous impacts of using plastic and how natural fibers can out plastics for achieving a green and clean environment.
