The Supreme court during the hearing over the worsened condition of the air in the capital expressed concerns and questioned the steps taken by the local authorities to improve the situation.
A special bench of the Supreme Court comprising of Chief Justice of India NV Ramana and Justices DY Chandrachud and Surya Kant heard the plea and stated that the air quality of Delhi is not improving despite the actions mentioned by the Delhi government and the air pollution of the capital is painting a negative picture of the country on a global stage.
As a directive to the Delhi government to curb the pollution the special bench asked to frame a comprehensive plan to plant trees & saplings across the capital for further assessment. "The government should also involve NGOs, members of civil society, students and others in planting trees in the city," the SC suggested.
The bench posted the next hearing for 2nd December and said that till then if the state government fails to implement the advised directions then a special task force will be formed to tackle the pollution in Delhi.
