The Budapest Forum 2022: Building Sustainable Democracies, a conference focused on discourse surrounding democratic and sustainability concerns was recently held in Budapest on the 21st and 22nd of September 2022.
The Forum was organized by the Municipality of Budapest, Political Capital Institute and the CEU Democracy Institute and brought together mayors from Europe and beyond, members of the European Commission and national governments, social activists, change-makers, prominent pundits and high-profile academics to debate and recommend on two themes: two main themes: Building Democratic Resilience (democracy) and Just Climate Transition (sustainability).
Guests of the conference among others included Nikola Dimitrov, former Deputy Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Jamie Fly, President of Radio Free Europe in Washington, Sergey Guriev economist, provost of Science Po and former advisor to President Medvedev, Nina Hachigian, Deputy Mayor for International Affairs of the City of Los Angeles, Ivan Krastev political scientist, permanent fellow of the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna, Borislav Sandov, Deputy Prime Minister of Bulgaria, Radosław Sikorski, Member of the European Parliament, and Rafał Trzaskowski, Mayor of Warsaw.
The issues of climate change, green energy and fossil fuels were discussed on the 2nd day of the forum, especially in the context of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.
