The Romanian International Gas Conference (RIGC) is an annual benchmark event that brings together a diverse range of stakeholders from the governments and industries of Member States, as well as representatives of European Institutions and energy regulators, to discuss the role of natural gas in the EU's energy security and climate change mitigation.
This year’s edition was held on the 21st and 22nd of September 2022 under the theme “Bridge to The Future: From Versailles to Bucharest – Natural gas, the bridge between climate action and energy security”, under the High Patronage of the Ministry of Energy and in partnership with the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (IOGP).
Given the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the RIGC 2022 laid a special emphasis on the security of the gas supply. The panels specifically addressed the diversification of gas supplies, domestic natural gas production, the condition of the current gas infrastructure, the role of blue hydrogen in the transition to net-zero, and the role of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) in decarbonizing challenging industries.
The event brought together Energy ministers and high officials from nine states in the region (Romania, Greece, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Hungary, Republic of Moldova, Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Georgia), experts, and representatives of some of the most important energy companies in Romania.
