90 Indian airports to become carbon neutral by 2024

On Tuesday, Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said that over 90 airports in the country will become carbon neutral by the year 2024. He also said that the number of airports in the country will reach 220 in the next five years.

The Union Minister stated that there are currently 141 airports in the nation during his speech at the All India Management Association's National Conference. Of these, airports at Kochi and Delhi are already carbon neutral, he added.


Jyotiraditya Scindia stated that upon taking up his responsibility as the Aviation Minister, the first thing he did was carbon mapping profiling of the airports.  It revealed that our two airports, Delhi and Kochi, are already carbon-neutral and, by the year 2024, there will be 92 to 93 airports in the country.  He further added that the ministry has set a target of zero carbon emissions by 2030.  Jyotiraditya Scindia, speaking during the program, also said that by the year 2030, India's airports will not only achieve the target of zero carbon emissions, but they will also achieve the target of 400 million air passengers.
