The world's first floating CNG station built in Varanasi remained utterly safe even in floods. GAIL India, who designed this CNG station, also claimed that the world's first floating CNG station will not be affected by floods.
The district administration not only monitored the floods but was also monitoring the experts night and day to keep the floating CNG station safe. Engineers used various types of anchors and modern methods to prevent the station from flooding. The CNG station was built when Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath saw poisonous smoke coming out of the diesel boat while sailing from the cruise on Dev Deepawali. Then engineers and administration came up with the idea of developing a CNG-based boat to save Ganga and the aquatic animals.
GAIL India started installing CNG in diesel boats for this and hence the CNG station which could easily fill CNG in these boats was developed. Sushil Kumar, General Manager, GAIL India, said that while designing this floating station, floods, high flow of Ganga and thunderstorms were kept in mind. A total of 3 Danforth anchors (370 kg) and 4 RCC anchors (5.5 tonnes) were used to control the jetty in the river Ganga during normal floods.
