Asia’s biggest Bio-CNG plant in Indore

Asia’s largest bio-CNG is inaugurated virtually by Prime Minister Modi on February 19, 2022, in Indore. Addressing the event virtually, PM Modi stated that the initiative of the Bio-CNG plant is very important as the wet waste released from houses, animals, markets, municipals and farms are in a way “Gobar Dhan”.

The Bio-CNG plant will have a total capacity to treat 550 MT of biodegradable wastes with the production of about 17,000 kg CNG and 100 tonnes of organic compost. It is estimated to produce CNG with 96 per cent pure methane gas. Indore Municipal Corporation is expecting revenue of around Rs 2.5 crore annually from the plant.

The project was financed mutually by Union urban development ministry and Indore municipal government.

According to a press release, “The balance quantity of CNG will be sold in the open market. The organic compost will help replace chemical fertilizers for agriculture and horticulture purposes.”
