People from across the globe have expressed concern about corporate lobbying and its impact.  To curb rising global temperatures, the COP-27 talks will be held in November in Sharm-el-Sheikh, a resort town on the Red Sea coast.

Egypt's organizers cited Coca-Cola's efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and the main focus on the climate when they announced the sponsor agreement in September. However, people on social media immediately started expressing their displeasure over such a statement by the organisers.

Activists criticized the company's large contribution to plastic pollution, pointing out that the deal was an example of corporate 'greenwash', a move to curb climate change to cover up polluting acts is presented exaggeratedly. An online petition has been filed to remove Coca-Cola from the role of sponsor, which has been signed by more than 2,28,000 people.

In addition, hundreds of civil society organizations have signed an open letter demanding that polluting companies be banned from participating in climate talks. Coca-Cola said its partnership underscores its ambitious plan to cut emissions and clean up the ocean's plastic waste.
