An event called ‘150 Days to go’ was celcebreated by the British Embassy in Cairo for the COP27 event scheduled for November this year, also celebrating the green partnership between UK and Egypt.
The UK has signed a guarantee agreement with the African Development Bank of $2 billion for climate finance in the African region with a portion dedicated to Egypt. Also, the British Council has announced a new program in partnership with Egypt under their worldwide climate program ‘The Climate Connection’, amied at making the COP27 the most inclusive climate conference ever. The UK also announced an investment of 11million Egyptian Pounds for development of higher education in Egypt with emphasis on climate awareness, research and climate friendly campuses.
Minister of Environment Dr Yasmine Fouad said: “We thank our colleagues from the UK for their support for the last six or seven months in how to best organize the conference given that we were only given 11 months during the pandemic. We are thrilled that today in the 150 days to COP27 Minister of Foreign Affairs and COP27 President Designate Sameh Shoukry has officially signed the host country agreement in Bonn. COP27 will be a COP for implementation. This means action on the ground.”
