In August, the door-to-door e-waste collection started with only six wards of the city it gained momentum by receiving more than 100 responses. The drive will now expand toing in all wards of the city.

Poornam Ecovision Foundation CEO, said, “this was a joined initiative that we took with APCCI and PMC. In order to help the city people to collect and dispose of e-waste. The e-waste should be handed to authorized collection centers. The central government has set forward an authorized system for industrial and commercial sector e-waste collection. But this system is not able to collect household e-waste.”

Scan And Schedule Pickup

On August 30 the pilot drive started with six wards: Yerwada-Kalas Dhanori, Nagar road-Vadgaon Sheri, Shivajinagar-Ghole road, Aundh-Baner, Dhole Patil Road, and Hadapsar-Mundhwa. After collecting around 3 tons of e-waste from 150 pickups of door-to-door e-waste. PMC encouraged to go forward and collect from all 15 wards of the city from December 1. PMC's role in sensitizing the citizens and creating awareness about these drives is very important.

The APCCI provides dedicated vehicles for the project to help PMC. Electronic gadgets are in rapid use which has led to this generation having more e-waste. To address this issue, the APCCI came up with a unique idea. Using the technology to its advantage, making use of a QR scan system to collect e-waste door-to-door. They also scientifically process the e-waste as per e-waste management rules. To schedule, the pickup citizens can scan the QR.
