As part of the ‘Swachh Amrit Mahotsav’, the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation recently set up an e-waste collection center on its premises with the goals of ensuring responsible e-waste disposal and raising awareness among the public.
The e-waste collection center has been set up in association with ‘Karo Sambhav’, an organization working on e-waste management. The Municipal Corporation Chief said that most people dump the e-waste generated in their houses/offices in the usual garbage which severely pollutes the environment. The NGO would inform the MC about the quantity of waste created at the center and would appropriately dispose of the e-waste.The center has been set up with the aim of segregating e-waste from domestic biodegradable waste and disposing of it through authorized recyclers. The Municipal Corporation itself generates a large amount of e-waste such as old desktops, keyboards, mouses, laptops and mobile phones, etc. which would now be disposed of safely through the e-waste center.
