Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who arrived in Germany to attend the G-7 summit, addressed a session on climate, energy and health at the Alpine Kestel in Schloss Elmau on Monday.
During his address, he touched on the global issue of climate change and mentioned that developing nations are wrongly blamed for their contribution to damaging the environment. In this context, he cited India’s population and said, "India has 17 percent of the world's population, but our contribution to global carbon emissions is only five percent”. He further added that India’s determination could be assessed from its climate action goals. India has delivered LED bulbs and cooking gas to every household, and started using 10% ethanol in fuel which has reduced carbon emissions by several million tonnes. PM highlighted India’s achievement of 40% renewable energy capacity 9 years before the target. The world’s first fully solar-powered airport is in India, he added.
