Andhra Pradesh has been asked to make significant efforts to deepen the Perform, Achieve, and Trade (PAT) Scheme by identifying new energy-intensive industries and sectors for accelerated adoption of efficient and low-carbon technologies by the Union Ministry of Power-led Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE).
The BEE has had a significant impact on improving energy efficiency in the industrial sector through efficient energy use, reduced energy costs, and a decrease in greenhouse gas emissions through PAT. The BEE has achieved savings of 24.27 million metric tons of energy (Mtoe) valued at Rs 45,000 crore in the first three cycles of PAT with an investment of Rs 70,000 crore by industries in PAT nationwide.
Sectors Adopt Low Carbon Technology
In comparison to the 1.16 Mtoe saved by 52 industries (designated users) in Andhra Pradesh up until Cycle 5, this has resulted in a total emission reduction of more than 100 million tonnes of CO2, or 4% of the country's emissions.
During the regional workshop on the PAT scheme being organized by Andhra Pradesh State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM), State Designated Agency of AP on Sunday in Visakhapatnam, Milind Deore, director of BEE, noted that the Government of India has made impressive strides in recent years to accelerating energy efficiency in industrial sectors through its flagship PAT Scheme and many of the sectors covered by it like cement and refineries.
"I admire how hard AP worked to put the PAT scheme into effect. With regard to PAT, AP is the state that performs the best, therefore, kudos to the energy department and the industry for their efficient coordination," he remarked.
