In an attempt to promote the transition to renewable energy in the state, Odisha’s government brought its Renewable Energy Policy 2022. The programme intends to encourage Private stakeholders to boost renewable energy output in order to meet the Centre's renewable purchase obligation (RPO) trajectory by 2030.
By 2030, industries and electricity distribution firms (discoms) must attain 43 percent RPO. The new policy provides substantial incentives to industrial firms. According to an official, throughout the policy term (2022-2030), companies would be granted incentives such as a 50 paisa per unit exemption on power use for 20 years. The policy is comprehensive, covering many aspects of energy transformation. It helps enterprises and utilities to satisfy RPO objectives while also ensuring the growth of renewable energy projects.
According to Biswadeep Parida, director of PwC, an international consultancy firm that works with the government, it would also assist create jobs and boost research and development. The project will be implemented by a nodal agency. The nodal agency would establish a single-window platform for the timely approval of all renewable energy projects.
