O2 Power To Provide Renewable Energy To STT GDC India

ST Telemedia Global Data Centers India (STT GDC India) will purchase power from O2 Power, a subsidiary of O2 Energy SG, via open access in captive mode, according to the company's announcement. Using the electricity, the company will power its data centers in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The 201.1 MW wind-solar hybrid project in Karnataka by O2 Power will provide renewable energy.

According to STT GDC India, the company plans to run carbon-neutral data centers by 2030. STT GDC India has committed to operating carbon-neutral data centers by 2030. To date, the company has used about 36% renewable energy across all of its businesses, and it plans to increase this percentage to about 60% over the next four years.


Expanding India's Renewable Energy Platform

By working with partners and suppliers of renewable energy, such as O2 Power, the company claimed it could reduce CO2 emissions by over 380,000 tons annually by the year 2026. This carbon reduction is the same as taking nearly 25,000 passenger cars off the road in a single year.


The CEO of STT GDC India, Sumit Mukhija, stated that "as we grow and expand, sustainability remains imperative, from designing and building green buildings to utilizing renewable energy and implementing innovative and efficient cooling technologies in our data centers."STT GDC India is a prestigious client in O2 Power's expanding C&I portfolio, which boosts customer confidence in our execution and delivery capabilities, according to Rakesh Garg, co-founder of the company.


With PPAs signed totaling about 2 GW and a completed 250 MW solar project in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, O2 Power is one of the expanding renewable platforms in India. O2 Power announced in August 2022 that it had purchased a portfolio of solar projects from Emmvee Photovoltaic Power, a manufacturer of solar panels based in Bengaluru. The two solar power projects that O2 will buy are located in Telangana and Karnataka.
