The World Meteorological Department has projected that the La Nina effect, which has been influencing world weather since 2020, is here to stay.

La Nina is an atmospheric phenomenon that runs counter to the El Nino effect. It has an overall cooling effect on the global weather, which occurs every two to seven years. It has been in effect since September 2020 and some predictions show that it won’t go away until 2030. If the predictions are correct, it will be the third ‘triple dip’ La Nina in the last 50 years. ‘Triple dip’ refers to the phenomenon when La Nina occurs for three consecutive Northern hemisphere winters.

The droughts in Africa and America, the more than normal rainfall in India and Australia and the abnormal hurricane in the Atlantic region are all being attributed to the La Nina effect.

The chief of WMO, said that warming of the planet because of human activities is also responsible for altering the patterns of naturally occurring phenomena like La Nina.
