The first of its kind, HyDeploy project has been launched in the UK which is a blend of hydrogen gas into a natural gas network . Its successful execution has been the talk of town lately. Customers used the hydrogen-blended gas safely in their homes and did not need to make any changes to their existing appliances and set-up.
The project was engineered at Keele University. Around 30 university buildings along with 100 homes operated on a private gas network at Keele University, wherein they received the blended gas for 18 months which ended in Spring 2021.
The Vice-Chancellor of Keele University, Professor Trevor McMillan said that HyDeploy is a promising collaboration and has demonstrated very clearly the consumer safety and the usage of up to 20% hydrogen blended with natural gas. 8 out of 10 homes in the UK run on natural gas. It is an energy concept the people are familiar with.
The results delivered by the Keele project gave the Health and Safety Executive the boost of confidence to approve the first-ever amalgamation of hydrogen and natural gas on the public gas network.
