Countries around the globe are chasing a net zero carbon emission target, some Indian institutions have come up with carbon capturing techniques, Indian Institute of Chemical Technology has developed a technology that captures methane and turns it into hydrogen.
Scientists from IIT Guwahati are partnering with NTPC for establishing carbon capture systems in power plants to reduce GHG (Greenhouse Gas) emissions. A week after the IPCC report talked about the necessity of use of carbon capture technologies, the Indian environment ministry issued a statement "Given the global warming potential of GHG, scientists are trying to explore innovative methods of absorbing these gasses and converting them to useful substances. New materials that can play a dual role of absorption as well as conversion is the new challenge area for scientists in carbon capture innovation,"
This was done under Mission Innovation project which is an initiative by 20 countries, it was formulated at the 2015 Paris Climate Conference to promote research and innovation form universities, researchers and private organizations.
