India submitted NDC goals to UNFCCC, aims to achieve net-zero by 2070

India has informed the United Nations about its goals towards environmental protection and climate change. India has said that under the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), India is committed to achieve about 50 percent cumulative electric power installed capacity from non-fossil fuel-based energy resources by 2030.

In addition, India will now reduce the emission intensity of GDP by 45 percent by 2030 from 2005 levels.  India has said that it will achieve the target of net zero emissions by 2070.  The second quantitative target will be implemented with the help of the transfer of technology and low-cost international finance, including the Green Climate Fund (GCF), said the document uploaded on the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) website. "NDC" means national plans and pledges made by a country to meet the goal of maintaining a global temperature rise of 2 °C above pre-industrial levels.  Whereas the target of 1.5°C is to avoid the worst effects of climate change. At the 26th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP26) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) last November, PM Modi announced that India's non-fossil energy potential would reach 500 GW by 2030. But, that target is now excluded from the submitted goals to UNFCCC.
