The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras announced that they will launch a master’s program on electric vehicles most probably starting by the end of January 2022.
This will be an interdisciplinary dual degree to be introduced for its BTech and dual degree students aiming to provide exposure in eMobility and to excel in the research capabilities in this trending domain.
The institution has reserved the intake to 25 students only for its inaugural course and students pursuing the third year of BTech and dual degree programs will be offered to enrol. The planned focus of the course is to be on providing skill sets required to work in the electric automobile industry such as EV integration, vehicle aggregate engineering, communication and calibration, verification and validation, and product and portfolio planning.
T Asokan, Head of Department Of Engineering, IIT Madras highlighted the necessity to build a sufficient depth in the domain of electric vehicles specific to EV batteries and motors and the course is being designed by the faculty department accordingly.
The current global trend and the automobile industry is witnessing a shift towards EV and while highlighting the need to have an efficient resource system to support this sector Karthick Athmanathan, professor of practice, IIT Madras said, “These are exciting times for the eMobility sector and we are clearly at the tipping point. We are now starting this phase where formal Programs for EVs and eMobility are being offered with very close engagement with Industry.”
