The Regional Center of Indira Gandhi Open University (IGNOU) has started two new courses. Along with helping the youth find jobs, these courses will also help in dealing with natural calamities. The last date for admission and registration is August 25.
The Indira Gandhi Open University aims to make the youth of the state proficient in environmental protection and disaster management. Youth will be able to take a Post Graduate Diploma in Disaster Management (PGDDM) and a Post Graduate Degree in Environment Protection (MSCENV) from the university.
The Senior Regional Director, Dr Anil Kumar Dimri said that the people living in the mountains are always at risk of natural calamity. It is imperative for the younger generation to be trained for their prevention and protection.
The disaster management course started at the university includes major subjects like understanding natural and man-made disasters, preparedness to deal with them, disaster response, rehabilitation, and reconstruction. Similarly, under the environmental protection course, core subjects like environmental science and fundamentals of ecology, environmental chemistry, environmental pollution, control and management, environmental law, and laboratory work will be taught.
