In the inaugural session of the ‘Building a Climate-Resilient Gujarat’ event, the chief minister of Gujarat, Bhupendra Patel said that the state is fully committed towards achieving the nation’s net-zero target and the vision of PM Modi. He said that efforts are being made to lower the dependency on fossil fuels and more renewable energy sources to be used in the coming years.
Several MOUs between Gujarat's Climate change department & educational/international institutions have been signed during the event to push the state’s climate action goals. A grant of Rs 1.5 crore to Gujarat University for establishing a Center of Excellence was announced along with MoUs with major educational institutes. About 6,000 students of schools and colleges were given a Rs 12,000 subsidy for the purchase of electric vehicles (EVs).
The CM highlighted that the state government increased the budget to tackle the climate change effects and this year an allocation of Rs 910 crore in the budget is made to focus on climate change action.
