Iraq, one of the founding members of OPEC (Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries) has urged fellow oil-producing nations to move to renewable energy ahead of a meeting of OPEC members. This meeting also has climate crisis discussions on its agenda, which is both unprecedented and vital ahead of the upcoming COP26, the UN climate summit to be held in Glasgow later this year.

The executive director of IEA (International Energy Agency) spoke about fundamentally changing the way the world produces and consumes energy, burning less coal, oil, and natural gas to limit the worse effects of climate change. OPEC has earlier agreed to boost oil production to recover the world economy from the impact of COVID-19. Luckily, OPEC is looking at the flip side of it now.
