On Monday, the Rajya Sabha finally cleared the 2022 Energy Conservation (Amendment) Bill. The main agenda of the bill is to put forward the outline for the use of clean energy mandatory.
India takes another step toward Green India. The Energy Conservation (Amendment) Bill, of 2022 implies the use of green energy. Making it mandatory to use non-fossil sources, which include: biomass and ethanol. The gases will be used for energy and feedstock. Along with it, two other gases green hydrogen and green ammonia will come into use.
Proposal And Plans By The Government
The development also paves the way for the setting of carbon markets in the country. The bill brings forth the idea of enhancing the scope of the Energy Conservation Building Code. While also bringing ambit the energy conservation regime within large residential buildings.
On Monday, almost 36 members of Rajya Sabha were part of the discussion making on the bill. The power minister RK Singh stated regarding the discussion that India potential to emerge as a leader in accordance with new areas. Mainly talking about becoming leaders in green buildings and green hydrogen.
He confirmed that currently, almost 24% of the energy consumption is part of the housing sector. So, taking into consideration the government has planned to only target big commercial establishments. A load capacity of 100KW is being undertaken by the bill.
He shared the plans of the government to mandate the use of green hydrogen. Especially through the consumption of green hydrogen in sectors like steel, refineries, fertilizer, and cement industries. The obligation target has not been set, as the decision will be taken by the body headed by the cabinet secretary.
