The state administration of Goa has started creating a road map for the state's shift to green energy, eager to forward its goals for green tourism. The creation of a green rating system and the implementation of decarbonization plans or programmes for the state's tourism industry and related industries are among the goals of the draft plan.
According to a top official, Goa's objective to use only renewable energy requires a transition to low-carbon routes while upholding the state's growth goals. According to projections, the final energy demand will rise from 46.8 per joules (PJ) in 2020 to 166.1 PJ in 2050, growing at a compound annual growth rate of 4.3%. Green Tourism Plan The official added that the government's green tourism plan will have an impact on transportation and other related industries like construction, cookery, fisheries, healthcare, and micro, small, and medium businesses. "Energy consumption in the state's tourism sector alone is expected to grow from 60 gigawatt hours (GWh) in 2020 to 145 GWh in 2050," the official said. The proposed five-month research period for national and international green grading systems and procedures, particularly those applied to the tourism industry, is set forth in the draft green tourism plan. In addition, it urges that a framework for a Goa-specific green rating system be developed in conjunction with all important stakeholders. The draft plan indicates that the appropriate promotional and awareness-raising materials should be prepared after the government authorises the specific implementation process and monitoring and evaluation (M&E) procedures. Along with the creation of at least six technologically and commercially viable design documents for the corresponding pilot projects, it has also been suggested that at least 12 high-impact and tried-and-true technologies or business models be identified that can lessen the carbon footprint of the tourism industry. According to the draught strategy, these must be properly approved by the relevant funders and stakeholders, and market data should be made available to help important stakeholders.
