Green hydrogen is seen to be the next thing in the sustainability revolution. Indian companies are rushing for the production of hydrogen and making their equipment hydrogen friendly. Private players like Reliance Industries and Adani are also moving in the direction of hydrogen manufacturing. Large amount of capital investment and change in government policy has resulted in several PSUs rushing to procure the technology necessary for proliferation of green hydrogen and setting up electrolysers, these include GAIL, IOCL, NTPC.
India is pushing its oil refineries and fertilizer manufacturers to reduce dependency on fossil fuels and switch to green hydrogen.
The hydrogen initiative is also a step in the right direction for achieving set climate goals of reducing carbon emissions and moving towards carbon neutrality.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the National Hydrogen Mission. "Green Hydrogen is the future of the world. Today, I announce the setting up of the National Hydrogen Mission with the aim of becoming the new global hub of Green Hydrogen, and also its largest exporter," he said in his Independence Day address last year.
