Worst states will have above-normal temperatures from April to June, with Central India experiencing the worst heat in May and June. After Asia and India set heat records last year, the UN's World Meteorological Organisation predicted abnormally high temperatures in 2024. Heatwaves mostly occur in central, northwestern, and coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Global warming increased Indian heatwaves by 2.5 days between 1961 and 2021. South India, which has had fewer heatwaves than North and Central India, may experience abnormally high temperatures in the future. Heat stress and heat-related disorders can cause fatal heat stroke. World Weather Attribution found that human-induced climate change 30 times increased the likelihood of the April 2023 heatwave in India and Bangladesh.
