With the seasonal change in Delhi, some relief has also been seen from pollution. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, there has been an improvement in Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI). On Thursday, the average air quality index was recorded at 284, which is in poor condition. For the last few days, the AQI in the capital remained very poor and on Saturday it reached the severe category.
With the improvement in air quality, Delhiites have got relief from some restrictions. The Centre's Air Quality Commission on Wednesday ordered the lifting of restrictions imposed under the third phase of the anti-pollution action plan in Delhi-NCR. The sub-committee held a review meeting in view of the significant improvement in air quality in Delhi-NCR to take steps under the Phased Action Action Plan (GRAP). In view of some relief from pollution in Delhi-NCR, the strictness has been reduced. Stage III of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) has been removed in Delhi. There will be no ban on construction and demolition in Delhi-NCR. State governments will not ban BS-3 petrol and BS-4 diesel cars. In industrial areas where there is no PNG infrastructure and supply, industries not using the approved fuel can now operate without restrictions. The CAQM also said that construction and demolition project sites and industrial units that have been issued closure orders due to violations or non-compliance will not resume their operations under any circumstances.
