The national capital is reeling under incessant rain from the delayed monsoon. It is after monsoon in 2010 that Delhi and nearby areas have received more than 1000 mm rainfall.
As per Indian Meteorological Department, the region receives an average of 649 mm rainfall during the monsoon season. Intense bursts of clouds dominated the weather during August and September this year, with sometimes as much as 100 mm of rainfall in a single shower. Skymet Weather attributed the changing weather patterns to climate change. Experts also said that such short spells of rain do not help in recharging ground water levels and instead cause flooding of low-lying areas.
