Even before the departure of the monsoon, the level of pollution in the air in the national capital Delhi and the cities of NCR has increased. The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi has reached in the poor category. According to the data of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the air quality i.e. AQI 240 was recorded at 7 am today (Wednesday), 21 September in Anand Vihar, Delhi. However, there has been a significant improvement in the AQI as compared to the previous day. Actually, on Tuesday i.e. 20 September, AQI 418 was recorded in Anand Vihar, which comes in the severe category.
The Delhiites have started witnessing hazy visibility and it is being told that this haze is not due to the weather but due to increasing pollution. The pollution level in the national capital may increase further in the coming few days. Delhi's air quality was recorded in the 'severe' category on Tuesday. Whereas the air quality (AQI) of Delhi was recorded in the good category amid the rains over the last weekend. According to the data of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the air quality in Delhi remained in the 'moderate' (116) category at 6.30 pm on Tuesday, while it again reached the 'poor' (240) category today.
AQI between zero and 50 is 'good', 51 to 100 'satisfactory', 101 to 200 'moderate', 201 to 300 'poor', 301 to 400 'very poor' and An AQI between 401 to 500 is considered in the 'severe' category.
