The purpose of this alliance is to protect countries around the world from the increasing wrath of drought as well as to better prepare them for the future. According to a statement issued by the Alliance, the alliance launched by Senegal and Spain is presented as a solution to combat the effects of climate change.

In this regard, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and Senegalese President Mackie Sall have jointly announced that the goal of this alliance is to prepare the land to deal with drought and climate impacts and provide political incentives.

In a statement issued by the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), it has been said that drought is a global challenge that no country can solve on its own. Droughts are becoming more devastating due to climate change and affecting all sectors of society, from agriculture, food security, energy, tourism, and transport.

UNCCD says this alliance will be strengthened by new political commitments. It is worth noting that Spain has given 5 million euros (about Rs 40.9 crore) as the seed fund for this alliance, so that the necessary resources can be raised. Kenya's President William Ruto has committed to planting 500 crore trees in the next five years and 1,000 crore trees in 10 years.
