In Chandigarh, it is mandatory to install solar power plants in houses above 500 yards. Most of the people have installed panels in their homes, due to which they are also getting a lot of profit. In view of this, the Environment Department has now decided that it will be mandatory to install solar power plants on houses of more than 10 Marla (250 yards). The department says that people will benefit a lot.
Environment Department Director Debendra Dalai said that people have benefited a lot after making it mandatory to install solar power plants in houses more than 500 yards. It is the effort of the department that this benefit should also be given to the owners of more than 250 yards. He said that once a person who has installed a solar power plant at his house, his electricity bill has become very low or zero. It has many other advantages as well. Hence this proposal has been made and sent to the Estate Office. The building bylaws would also need to be amended to implement this, so discussions are on with the officials of the Estate Office. He said that the condition of installing a minimum capacity solar power plant on the building is also going to be amended. Due to this rule, it has happened that the buildings which have more capacity, they are also installing solar power plants with minimum capacity. Therefore, there will be a feasibility study of the building and it will be suggested to install solar power plant of whatever capacity that building will have. Chandigarh Environment Department had come up with RESCO model to install solar plant on the roof of the house at no cost.
