Cairo hosts ‘Egypt-ICF & Meeting of the African Ministers 2022’ for COP27

The second edition of the Egypt – International Cooperation Forum and Meeting of the African Ministers of Finance and Environment was recently held between 7th and 9th September 2022 at St. Regis Almasa Convention Center, New Administrative Capital, Cairo, Egypt.

It was held under the theme ‘Moving from Pledges to Implementation’ and aimed to highlight Africa’s needs and ambitions towards the climate change agenda, and identify the necessary support to develop their updated nationally determined contributions (NDCs) before COP27.

The overall goals of the Egypt-ICF Forum included finance mobilization and access, the funding of projects for mitigation and adaptation, and national initiatives focusing on developing countries and Africa; addressing the needs, resources, and modalities for leveraging the necessary public and private support to accelerate climate action; and providing a timely platform to explore needed national actions that would aid progress toward a just and green transition.

Egypt-ICF 2022 witnessed high-level international participation including Amina J. Mohammed, deputy secretary-general of the UN and chair of the United Nations Sustainable Development Group; John Kerry, US climate envoy; Mark Carney, UN special envoy on climate action and finance; Odile Renaud Basso, president of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development; Benedict Okey Oramah, president and chairman of the board of directors at the African Export-Import Bank; and Mathias Cormann, secretary-general of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.
