A recent study conducted by the Indian Institute of Science (Bengaluru) along with IIT Mandi and IIT Guwahati has concluded that 10 eastern cities (mostly coastal) are most at risk due to climate change.
Jharkhand, Mizoram, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh, and West Bengal are the eight states that contain these districts. According to this study, extreme weather phenomena in these regions will be amplified by frequent heat waves, tropical cyclones, and cloudbursts. Furthermore, the duration and intensity of such a phenomenon will also increase to a large extent. Earlier the IPCC AR6 report predicted that 12 Indian coastal cities may not survive till the end of this century.
