Uttar Pradesh is launching a green energy strategy with a 1 lakh crore investment for approximately 125 clean energy projects.
According to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's vision, the state wants to meet 40% of its energy demands through solar and alternative sources. The ambitious plan was revealed by the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA), showing the state's support for sustainable energy methods.
Anupam Shukla, Director of UPNEDA, stated that during the 2023 Global Investor Summit, the state got investment bids totaling 40 lakh crore, with a significant amount targeted for solar power and other sustainable energy projects under the 'Akshay Urja' Scheme. Uttar Pradesh now generates around 2152 MW of solar energy, up from 279 MW in 2017, thanks to incentives and policies stated in the state's new Solar Policy.
Shukla revealed prospective projects in the investment pipeline, including an off-stream close loop pump storage project in Sonbhadra by Greenko Group that will generate 3660 MW at an estimated outlay of 17,000 crore. TUSCO Ltd also intends to invest Rs. 6500 crore in the construction of a 1000 MW floating solar project on the Matatila Dam in the Lalitpur district. Other projects include Bundelkhand Solar Energy Limited's 1200 MW Solar Power Park in Jalaun district and ACMI Cleantech Solution Private Limited's two off-stream closed-loop pump sets in Prayagraj and Meerganj.
Uttar Pradesh is also planning to build a 50 MW floating solar project at the Bhakhira Bird Sanctuary in Eastern Uttar Pradesh. The state government is looking into using solar energy to power all of the 1994 cold storage, which has a total storage capacity of 1.65 crore metric tonnes. As part of the Solar City program, NTPC is building a 40 MW solar power plant on 165 acres of land near Ayodhya, with the project set to be completed in March 2024.
This extensive plan reflects Uttar Pradesh's dedication to sustainable energy solutions, with the state adopting solar and alternative energy sources to meet its energy needs and contribute to a cleaner, greener future.
