The consumption of milk and milk-related goods of all brands results in an estimated 30,000 tonnes of plastic trash being produced daily in Pune. A2 dairy start-up is working to lessen this landfill and plastic waste. In order to enable its customers to bring back their used but cleaned milk pouches for recycling, Truly Desi has partnered with the social organization ProEarth.
Plastic milk bags are a consistent contributor to the destruction of the earth, which is done primarily by plastic. Mohit Rathod, the co-founder of Truly Desi, said, “approximately 5 crore milk pouches are thrown away every day in India and can last up to 400 years in landfills. Since we are already attempting to improve society, why not go one step further? We are working to implement a planned strategy for collecting and recycling our milk pouches in order to reduce the amount of waste we produce. We intend to operate on a larger scale, where a sizable portion of waste will be recycled and put back into the economy.”
Milk Pouches Recycled By Truly Desi
Customers are asked to wash, dry, and keep whole milk packets as part of this effort rather than tossing them away in trash cans. The delivery personnel gather these packets at the end of the month and send them to earth for recycling and waste management. Additionally, Truly Desi asks consumers not to cut the corners off milk packets in order to pour the milk out. Instead, they have proposed that a tiny incision is sufficient to empty it. Additionally, by not cutting all the way through, one can prevent the area from becoming littered with numerous plastic fragments.
"Customers are increasingly becoming more conscious, and we need them to witness action on the ground," said Hamsa Iyer, general manager of ProEarth. ProEarth is in the room to work. They took the initiative a few months ago gathering milk pouches for recycling, Truly Desi so far has recycled 30% of the plastic milk pouches. Truly Desi hopes to recycle 80–90% of its milk packaging through this program in the near future.
