Tamil Nadu's government is planning to train officials in climate risk assessment. The training will be conducted by the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) and will focus on several aspects of climate change.
The training will be conducted in a blended mode, with both online and offline components. The online component will be delivered through NIDM's e-learning platform. The offline component will be conducted at NIDM's training facilities in Chennai and Madurai. The training will be free of charge for all participants.
The training aims to spread awareness about climate change and its impacts and to train personnel in identifying climate risks. This will also help the officials assess the vulnerability of different sectors to climate change and develop adaptation strategies.
The training will be conducted in two phases. The first phase will be held in August 2023 and will target officials from the state government's departments of agriculture, water resources, and environment. The second phase will be held in September 2023 and will target officials from the state government's district administrations.
This initiative is part of the Tamil Nadu government's efforts to build climate resilience. The government has also announced plans to develop a climate change action plan for the state.
