"The Threat of Extreme Marine Heatwaves: North Atlantic Ocean in Crisis"

Climate records show that the global ocean temperature has broken records for May, June, and July, with particular concern surrounding an unexpected marine heatwave in the North Atlantic Ocean.

Temperatures off the west coast of Ireland were up to 5°C above average, classified as a category 5 heatwave, or "beyond extreme." While directly attributing this heatwave to climate change is complex, the world's warming and ocean heat absorption are clear consequences of human-induced climate change. Scientists emphasize the devastating impact of such heat on marine ecosystems, which produce 50% of the world's oxygen. As marine heatwaves become more frequent, understanding their implications for marine life and ecosystems remains a critical research focus.
