Telangana is aiming to up its afforestation drive to 50 lakh trees to be grown on 12,000 hectares. This initiative will be enabled with the use of drone technology. The state’s ITE&C and Forest Departments are teaming with Marut Drones, a tech start-up in Hyderabad to initiate this ambitious and innovative afforestation drive.
The drones will function by aerial scanning of the agricultural lands and will disperse the seeds in the areas with an inbuilt ‘seedcopter’. It will cover major barren areas and distribute seeds.
Before the actual plantation, proper terrain analysis would be done of the areas. This would include identifying plant species, soil type and quality and climate, then the seeding would be planned. The IT department has stressed the importance of pushing the State’s plantation drive and is vigorously working towards it.
