Study Proves Mumbai Areas With Less Green Cover are Warmer

A Green Cover Map Study by World Resources Institute (India) proves that areas in Mumbai with lesser tree cover tend to be hotter.

The study involved measuring mean surface temperatures and counting vegetation (trees) via satellite imagery from 2015-2020. Its findings were presented during a webinar on Urban Greening and Biodiversity for Mumbai Climate Action Plan (MCAP). Mumbai has a total of 29.75 lakh trees. Concretization of maximum land is the main reason for rising temperatures. The focus on planting more trees and increasing green cover is a serious priority, said an attendee of the webinar.
